Brandy, Brian, and Felicia tested February 17, 2017 and were certified April 25, 2017

The Black Belt test consists of demonstrating all technique and to also be able to teach the techniques correctly.  This part of the test is with the equipment demonstrating all hand techniques, kicking techniques, knee and elbow techniques and sweeping techniques.

There is much knowledge being tested in the 3 1/2 hours it takes to complete this test.  Knowledge on empty hand defense, weapons defense.

A lot of matt work is demonstrated with how to fall safely, roll outs, slap outs, take offs from different attacks, tackle attacks, and more!

All kata are performed and then we test mental strength with the Shinai (Kendo training tool).

Sparring with all the students from the lower ranks all the way up to Sensei Richard.  This shows the fighting spirit of the student.

The Black Belt testing class was well attended with many of our students and 15 of our Black Belts.  We are also so thankful for the support from family and friends.

Brandy Spicher, Brian Christopher, and Felicia Baca-Griego all took their own path to the same goal.  They are the three newest certified Black Belts at Belen Goju Ryu Karate!  We now have certified 72 Black Belts and 4 posthumous Black Belts for a total of 76 Black Belts!
